===============================================================
MAXIMUS BBS UPLOADER NAME - UPLOADED FILE NAMES LINKER
===============================================================
Compliments of New Century BBS 1:232/31 8:7002/3005 8:3006/0
"Those that call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
WHAT IS IT?
UPLONAME.EXE will look through your MAXIMUS ul.log for
new uploads and will identify who uploaded them and will attach
their name and a dl counter to the files.bbs listing. For
example, the files.bbs may show this before uploname.exe is
run:
PRETTY10.GIF A gif file of a pretty face
After uploname.exe is run the same files.bbs will look like this:
PRETTY10.GIF [ 0] Uploader: Jim Smith on Feb-02-92 A gif
file of a pretty face.
HOW TO USE UPLONAME.EXE?
Simply place uploname.exe in the directory in which exists
your ul.log and run it, e.g.,
C:/MAX/LOG> uploname
That's all there is to it. UPLONAME will do the rest. Optionally,
and probably more likely, you will eventually want to have a *.bat
file to run UPLONAME.EXE. You can set up your *.bat to run
UPLONAME.EXE after each user if you like... it will add about 35
seconds to the turn-around routine to get your BBS ready for the
next caller. You may also choose to run UPLONAME.EXE during your
nightmail routine.... running it just once a day. Whatever way
you choose to run it, it will automatically take care of adding
uploaders' names and dates and a dl counter to your files.bbs.
ULN.OLD AND UL.LOG...
UPLONAME.EXE will place a "*" at the beginning of each upload that
it has processed and this is how it keeps track of what is has
done and what it still needs to do. If you would like UPLONAME
to re-do your ul.log, you will need to use a text editor and
remove the "*" at the beginning of the upload that you wish to
have the program re-process. Additionally, remember that UPLONAME
would have placed counter/name/date information in the appropriate
files.bbs.... so, if you choose to have UPLONAME reprocess a line
in you ul.log, you will also have to go edit your files.bbs with
a text editor to remove the old information that UPLONAME has placed
there. By doing these two steps, e.g., (1) edit out the "*" in
your ul.log and (2) removing dl counter/name/date information in
your files.bbs, you are ready for UPLONAME to reprocess your ul.log.
UPLONAME.EXE will also copy your ul.log to a file called ULN.OLD
and in it will be a copy of your ul.log before UPLONAME.EXE did
any processing of ul.log information. This is just so as to have
a backup of ul.log around before UPLONAME.EXE did anything to it
for whatever reason you may need it. Note that UPLONAME.EXE will
write a new ULN.OLD each time it processes ul.log so the UNL.OLD
is only available until the next run of UPLONAME.EXE.
DOWNLOAD COUNTERS AND SUCH...
UPLONAME.EXE is set to write your dl counter this way: [ 0].
If you are running UPLONAME on files that have already been
downloaded or on files where there is any already-existing dl
counter, you will need to manually alter your counter after
using UPLONAME. A good utility for doing this is FEBBS. If your
dl counter is different from [ 0], e.g., ( 0) or [ 0], you
will have to edit this with FEBBS or an equivalent. This should
be no great problems as, remember, UPLONAME only processes files
that have been uploaded..... not those that you have placed on
your system yourself.
LEGAL STUFF...
This program is guaranteed to do nothing at all except to take
up disk space. Your use of the program is consent to hold the
author to no legal liabilities of any type for any damage to
your files or hardware. If you do not wish to abide by this
consent, then please erase all UPLONAME-related files.
The program works fine here.

nice to get a post-card from you if you use UPLONAME.EXE. Please
send your postcard (and any suggestions you may have concerning
improving UPLONAME.EXE) to:
